Judith J. Leidl, MFA
Assistant Professor, Art Program

Judith Leidl received both her BFA and MFA from NSCAD University where she was awarded scholarships for both academic and artistic excellence. Since then, her artwork has been featured in over one-hundred prominent group and solo exhibitions worldwide. Judith has also received numerous awards for her work.

Judith’s artwork is included in many private and public collections nationally and internationally.

Judith Leidl has been a faculty member at Acadia University, Studio Art, since 1998, teaching drawing, painting as well as mixed media. The Art Program at Acadia University is challenging, welcoming and popular. There is an emphasis on a collaborative approach to learning artmaking in a positive, creative as well as supportive studio environment.

Judith Leidl has taught printmaking at NSCAD University and Nunavut Arctic College, Baffin Island. Judith has also worked for several years at the world renowned Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts and Crafts in Pangnirtung, Baffin Island as Artistic Advisor to the Pangnirtung Community Print Collection.

Judith has been an Artist-in-Residence in Vallauris, the south of France. Upon completion, Judith exhibited a series of art works that reflected her experience living and working in Vallauris. This residency was supported through a Acadia University 25.55 Research Award.

Judith has also conducted research via an SIG Insight Award in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where she created a series entitled “The Amsterdam Drawings”. As well, Judith collaborated with Acadia University School of Nutrition to install a collection of paintings within the newly renovated Huggins Science Hall. That included the acquisition of eleven art works with five on loan.

Most recently, Judith Leidl was a visiting artist at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, Fredericton NB, having been awarded an Acadia University 25.55 Research Award. Also, she was invited as Artist-in-Residence at the Ottawa School of Art, Ottawa, Ontario, which was supported by an Acadia University Research and Innovation Award. Judith will be exhibiting the artwork created during the residency at the Ottawa School of Art the Fall of 2024.
